David Blumberg, MD

About David

Dr. Blumberg is a board-certified general and colorectal surgeon. He graduated from SUNY-Downstate Medical School in 1988. He completed a clinical research fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute in 1994 and his general surgery residency in Maimonides Medical Center in 1996. He spent the next two years in a clinical fellowship in general surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and in 1999 completed a colorectal surgery fellowship at the Ochsner Clinic. Dr. Blumberg was an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) from 1999-2005 when he entered private practice remaining at UPMC until 2014. From 2014 to the present, he has been a system-wide Chief of Colorectal Surgery and a Director for a Rectal Cancer Program, Robotics Program and Enhanced Recovery Program after Surgery. Since 2016, Dr. Blumberg has been a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery rectal cancer committee which has reshaped the surgical standards for rectal cancer treatment in the United States today.
